Warrior Men Win 3 Games in 5 Days

Sterling, Kan.-The Sterling College men's soccer team played a 3 game gauntlet in a five-day stretch. They conquered the gauntlet and went 3-0 in the games, outscoring their opponents 30-3.

The five-day stretch started with a 6 nil victory over Randall University. This game was played a week later than originally scheduled due to high temperatures the previous week that wreaked havoc on sporting events to be played across Kansas. Stevy Kama was the outstanding offensive threat scoring three goals for the Warriors. Ruben Guzman, Angel Jimenez-Cortez and Jonathan Torres also found the back of the net for Sterling in the game. Mateus Lara had the lone assist in the contest. Marcelo Fuentes got the win in the net.

The next game was put out of reach early as the Warriors continued their offensive onslaught while playing on back-to-back days, this time against Baptist Bible College. Stevy Kama got the ball rolling once again scoring in the 10'. He would end up with two goals on the day and 5 total goals in just over 24 hours. Matt Dale also contributed two goals in the match. Juan Sepulveda, Mateus Lara, Jonathan Torres and Javier Armendariz each scored one goal as well. Berk Surmeli played all 90 minutes in the match to earn the win. Sterling won the second match of the week by a final score of 8-2.

Sterling's third and final match of the gauntlet proved to be an opportunity to get a lot of players some much needed time on the pitch. Scoring early and scoring often, the Warriors cruised to a victory that was shortened by several minutes due to time restrictions at the sports complex they were playing in. The final score against Ecclesia College was 16-1. Matt Dale, Mateus Lara, and Keegan Witbooi each had a hat trick while Angel Jimenez-Cortez added two goals and a number of other Warriors scored a goal each. Sterling passed the ball effectively earning 12 assists to go along with the 16 goals. Lara, Witbooi, Guzman and Daniel Stone each had two assists.

Having won 3 in a row, Sterling is now 3-1 on the season and plays Saturday, September 9, at 4 pm against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.
