Men’s Golf Takes 2nd at KCAC Match Play Championship

Dodge City, Kan. – The KCAC had their annual KCAC Match Play Championship at Mariah Hills Golf Course once again in Dodge City, Kan. The tournament started with a stroke play section to determine seeding for the teams present. Sterling received a third seed after stroke play earning them a chance to play in the Gold Bracket, and a chance to earn the overall championship.

Sterling played second-seeded Kansas Wesleyan for a chance at the title. In match play, it is a hole-by-hole battle where winners are determined by holes won, and not by number of strokes. At the end of regulation, Sterling and KWU were deadlocked and extra holes had to be played. Anders Hermansen won his match, Olivier Aucoin, Sondre Storli Jensen, and Zach Surface all tied their matches, and Nick Ritchie was the lone loss in the first round of match play. In extra holes, played Tuesday morning after conditions were too dark to continue on Monday, Jensen took the loss, but Surface and Aucoin won in 20 holes. Aucoin and his opponent were the final two on the course and Aucoin stared down an 8 foot putt for the win. He took any break out of the putt and hit straight to the back of the pin, hit it, and the ball dropped for Sterling to make it to the Match Play Finals against Friends University.

In the final, Sterling was able to get a win out of Hermansen who finished 2 UP. The rest of the Warriors lost their matches to the NAIA #7 ranked Falcons to earn their second place finish.

This was Sterling's final match of the fall as they will return to action after Christmas break to open the 2025 season in the spring.
