Sterling College Warriors face setback against Evangel

In a challenging evening at the Gleason Center, the Sterling College Warriors succumbed to a robust Evangel University Valor team with a final score of 92-67 on Saturday, Jan. 25. Despite spirited efforts, the Warriors could not overturn a substantial halftime deficit, trailing 52-23 at the break.

The Valor capitalized extensively on their offensive prowess, managing an impressive 63 percent shooting from the field and 57 percent from three-point range. Contrastingly, the Warriors shot 41 percent from the field and made some progress from the perimeter, shooting 32 percent from beyond the arc. This marked a notable improvement over previous performances, illustrating a resilient team that continues to grow.

Key Sterling College players included Jimmy Causey Jr. with 15 points and six rebounds; Jayden Garrison with 16 points and two rebounds; and Julian Smith with a commendable 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Their contributions highlighted key moments for the Warriors, showing promise despite the tough competition.

The Warriors faced challenges with turnovers and rebounding, which impeded their ability to close the gap. The Valor maintained control throughout the game, at times extending their lead to as much as 29 points.

Looking ahead, the Sterling College Warriors (5-9, 10-10) are set to host Kansas Wesleyan University (5-8, 10-9) on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Gleason Center. The upcoming home game offers an opportunity for the Warriors to rebound from this loss and showcase their continued improvement.
