Sterling College's rally falls short against McPherson
The Sterling College Warriors faced a tough loss against the McPherson College Bulldogs on Wednesday, Jan. 22 in McPherson, Kan. The final score of 79-94 did not reflect the Warrior's spirited challenge during the game where they initially led but eventually succumbed to the Bulldogs.
The game started on a high note for the Warriors as they quickly pulled ahead with a 10-4 lead. However, as the first half progressed, they saw their advantage diminish, heading into halftime trailing at 41-45. Despite a commendable effort, Julian Smith contributing 21 points along with 11 rebounds, Mooch Austin with 24 points and Jayden Garrison adding 17 points, the Warriors could not regain their initial momentum.
The Bulldogs amplified their game in the second half, extending their lead by as much as 15 points. The Warriors struggled from the three-point line, finishing with a below-average 22% shooting from beyond the arc, although they managed a better 44% from the field overall.
Sterling's defensive efforts featured notable contributions from Chris Drake with nine rebounds, Garrison and Elias Ngoga with six rebounds. Austin and Garrison had the Warriors only steals on the night with two and one, respectively.
Looking ahead, the Warriors have a chance to rebound from this setback as they prepare to host Evangel University Valor at Sterling, Kan. With a current record standing at 5-8 in league and 10-9 overall, the Warriors are keen on turning their fortunes around in their upcoming game.
