Sterling, Kan. – The Warrior basketball team competed well against #4 Oklahoma Wesleyan University in their final home game of the season. Sterling cut the lead to three with under 7 minutes to play before OKWU opened it back up to double figures before the clock expired. The Warriors lost by a final score of 91-80.
Sterling had chances late in both games they played against OKWU this season. On the road, Sterling cut the OKWU lead to 1 point with under a minute to play before the Eagles hit a dagger three late in the shot clock. Wednesday night, Sterling got into a hole early and was digging their way back but couldn't quite turn the corner.
Mooch Austin had 20 points and 4 assists, followed by Lucas Briar with 17 and Jayden Garrison with 14. As a team, Sterling was much improved over recent games shooting 48% from the field and 47% from three point range. However, Sterling lost the rebound and turnover battles, both of which are critical when working for a win, especially in close games.
The Warriors close out the season at Bethel College on Saturday afternoon.
