Dominant First Half the Difference for Warriors

Sterling, Kan. – Warrior basketball kept things rolling Saturday night with a win of the University of Saint Mary Spires. It was a dominant first half the proved to be the difference in the game for Sterling. By the end of the night, Sterling had completed a 76-63 win.

Early on, Sterling found themselves in a 5-0 hole to the Spires, but they went on a run that scored 18 straight points for the Warriors, setting the tone for the rest of the evening. At one point, Jayden Garrison scored 9 straight points in the Warrior run. Sterling kept working to extend the lead approaching the break, and had built up a 33-18 lead when the first 20 minutes came to a close.

The second half was much more of a challenge as Saint Mary would not go away. Sterling held a double-digit lead much of the second half. Their largest lead of the afternoon was 22 points, which happened midway through in the second half. As the Warrior's pace slowed from this time in the game, so did their offense. However, it was too little too late for the Spires and their comeback attempt. Time ran out Sterling escaped with a 76-63 win.

Jayden Garrison was the leading scorer for Sterling with 18 points. Mooch Austin added 16 points and Brandon Doss added 12 more. Lucas Briar added 6 rebounds to lead the way for Sterling. This win gives Sterling 6 in a row.
