Spires Fall to Warriors 76-63

Sterling, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball traveled to take on the Sterling College Warriors on Saturday, resulting in a 76-63 loss. The Spires are now 5-3 overall and 1-1 in KCAc play.

After two quick shots from Deshaud St. Martin and Joey Schultz, the Warriors scored ten unanswered points to take the lead. Sterling continued to use momentum in their favor, scoring eight more points and taking an 18-5 lead. With under ten minutes to go, Demarius Houston hit a three to bring the Spires within 11 points of the Warriors. Saint Mary chipped away at the daunting Sterling lead, making it a seven-point game after a free throw from Houston. The Warriors rallied late in the half to head into the break with a 33-18 lead over the Spires.

St. Martin and Bryce Johnson combined for eight of the first nine points for Saint Mary to open the second half. However, the Spires could not match Sterling's offensive output as the Warrior's lead grew past 10 points. Johnson and Blake Chadwick put together a five-point run with eleven minutes to go, but Saint Mary could not sustain the pressure. The Spires attempted to cut into the lead one more time with threes from Chadwick, St. Martin, Houston, and Quentin Williams but ran out of time and fell 76-63.

St. Martin recorded his fourth double-double of the year and led the Spires on both ends of the court with 15 points and ten defensive rebounds on the night.
