Warrior FB Drops Homecoming Game

Sterling, Kan. – Warrior Football played their Homecoming game against longtime rival, Tabor College on Saturday in Sterling. Things did not go the way of the Warrior as Sterling struggled to find an offensive rhythm during much of the game. Sterling lost 24-10 in front of the Homecoming crowd.

Tabor got on the board first with a field goal midway through the first quarter. Sterling had an answer early in the second quarter as they scored their only touchdown of the day. Rocklin Baptista found Trey Dixon for an 8 yard pass and catch. Baptista showed fancy footwork on the play avoiding Bluejay defenders in the pocket before threading the needle on the pass to Dixon. The score was set up by a 43 yard run by TC Smith earlier in the drive. Early in the second quarter it was 7-3 Sterling.

Tabor went on to score 21 straight. They scored two touchdowns in the second quarter making it 17-7 at halftime, and added another score early in the third, putting Sterling in a 24-7 hole. There was still plenty of time left for the Warriors, but they were not able to capitalize on anything more than a 39 yard field goal by Luis Franco just before the third quarter came to a close. Neither team put anything together in the fourth quarter and the final score in Sterling was 24-10.

Baptista threw for 157 yards Saturday. He was 12 for 27 with a touchdown and three interceptions. TC Smith led all rushers with 66 yards on 19 attempts, including the breakout 43 yard run that set up the Warrior's first score of the day. Myreik Goodwin-Lagree had five catches for 73 and Trey Dixon had 3 catches for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Luis Franco was perfect on the day with the 39 yard field goal and tacking on one extra point.

Alan Garcia was the leader on the Warrior defense with 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a sack. Dexter Walker also forced a fumble.
