Sterling Unable to Keep up with Falcons

Wichita, Kan.-It was a tough day for the Warrior football team from start to finish. Sterling College (1-5) traveled to Friends University (3-4) to take on the Falcons.

Friends took control from the opening drive scoring a touchdown to open the scoring. They continued to move the ball for the rest of the half scoring on every possession in the first half and carried that into their first possession in the second half. Sterling trailed at the break, 20-0.

Sterling forced Friends to punt on their early in the second half, it was their only punt of the game. Sterling put a successful drive together late in the fourth quarter and gave them their only score of the day. Dylan Reese crossed the line on a hard-fought 2-yard run to get Sterling on the board. It capped a six-play, fifty-five yard drive. The score was too little, too late as the Warriors fell to the Falcons 42-7.

Sterling was beaten in every aspect of the game. It was quarterback by committee for the Warriors and the 3 players combined for a 10-19 day for 91 yards. They ran the ball 25 times for 100 yards. Sterling was led by Reese with 6 carries for 48 yards and the lone Warrior TD. David Timmons and Drew Ellis were the top targets combining for 7 of the 10 receptions.

Defensively, Sterling was led by George Powell Jr. and Deven Rodgers. Powell Jr. had 11 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception that was returned for 44 yards. Rodgers had 10 tackles.

Sterling plays on the road next Saturday, October 22, when they travel to Newton, Kan. to take on the #9 Bethel College Threshers. The game begins at 1 pm.
