Baseball Beat By OKCU in Final Home Game

Sterling, Kan. – Baseball closed out their home season with a nonconference loss to #24 Oklahoma City University on Tuesday afternoon. With an open spot in their KCAC schedule, they brought in the Stars to fill the opening before their final series of the season. Sterling gave up two big innings to the Stars that cost them in the 15-7 loss.

Sterling scored every other inning throughout the game whereas OKCU scored in chunks. Sterling got the scoring going with a run in the first. The Stars answered right back with seven runs in the second and take the lead. A lead they would never give up. Sterling was able to get three runs back in the third on a three-run homerun by Andrew Dutro, one of three for Sterling. Sterling's second homerun came off the bat of Albert Bisono in the seventh, a solo shot, and the Warriors got one more in the ninth when Nate Heffline led off the inning with a homerun.

Eric Beyale, Dutro, and Nicholas Keller each had two hits for Sterling. Dutro knocked in the three runs on the homerun to lead the team in RBIs, Heffline followed up with two RBIs, and Keller and Bisono each had one. Reid Heidtbrink started on the mound for Sterling and went five innings giving up eight runs on five hits. He also struck out three and walked three. Troy Sackett and Aaron Elsasser each made an appearance on the mound as well.

Sterling returns to conference play on Friday and Saturday when they take on the McPherson Bulldogs in McPherson for the final series of the season. Due to inclement weather in the area, they will play a double header on Friday and a single nine on Saturday. Sterling will just miss an opportunity once again at the KCAC postseason tournament.
