Warrior Bats Stay Hot in Win over Southwestern

Sterling, Kan. – It took a few innings for Sterling to get rolling, but when they did, they didn't stop. Sterling scored 17 runs on 16 hits in a 17-7, 8-inning win over the Southwestern College Moundbuilders. Good pitching combined with excellent hitting proved to be the winning equation as the Warriors attempt to work their way back to an above 500 record.

Andrew Dutro was once again the man of the day getting the scoring started for Sterling. Last Saturday he hit three homeruns against a very good Tabor team, and today that trend continued. In the bottom of the first, Dutro doubled down the left field line knocking in Sterling's first run of the game. In the third inning, he came back to the plate and a moon-shot that hooked around the foul pole in left field that gave Sterling their first lead of the day, and they never looked back. Sterling added 4 runs in the fourth, 5 runs in the sixth and 2 more runs in both the seventh and eighth innings, completing the run-rule victory.

Dutro led Sterling with 3 hits knocking in 4 runs and scoring 4 times. Nicholas Keller had 2 RBIs in a two-hit performance that included a triple in the fourth. Troy Sackett got the start, but was a no-decision in the contest. Tyler Duffey worked nearly five innings in relief and earned the win.

Sterling improves to 12-13 overall and 6-8 in the KCAC, placing them eighth in the league standings. This weekend they play three games against a very tough Oklahoma Wesleyan University team that currently sits atop the conference standings.
