Big Innings Cost Warriors Against Builders

Winfield, Kan. – Warrior baseball got off to a hot start scoring 7 runs in the first three innings against Southwestern, but the Builders answered with a five-run inning that gave them the lead that they never relinquished. Sterling added a run late, but it was not enough as they ended the first game of the season series with a 10-8 loss.

A handful of Warriors had two hits in the game as they outhit the builders 13 to 12 in the contest. Eight different Warriors knocked in a run as well accounting for all eight runs. Andrew Dutro had a pair of doubles with Tyler Gates adding one more.

Trent Canaan started for Sterling and gave up 8 runs in just shy of four innings of work. Tyler Duffey and Dustin Chartrand combined to finish the game for the Warriors.

The Warriors play on the road this weekend in a three game series with the hot-hitting Tabor College Bluejays. The game Friday is set for a 2 pm start and the double-header on Saturday is slated for a first pitch at noon with game three to follow. Sterling is now 10-11 this season, falling below .500 for the first time this season.
