Baseball Continues to Excel in Nonconference Schedule

Sterling, Kan. – Baseball continues to get it done on the field, this time against the Central Christian College Tigers. Sterling was able to get several pitchers an opportunity to work in a 6-4 win on Tuesday afternoon.

After two innings of scoreless baseball, helped in large part by Andrew Dutro who robbed a Tiger of a two-run homerun, Central Christian put the first run on the board. By the time the bottom of the fourth came along, Sterling plated two runs of their own. Albert Bisono-Rodriguez plastered a ball in the left-center field gap that scored Andrew Mason and Nate Heffline. Central tied it up in the top of the fifth when a ball squirted past the catcher.

Dutro struck again in the fifth, this time on offense with a two-run triple that scored Tyler Gates and Luis Morales. The teams traded runs in the sixth and seventh giving Sterling their fourth win of the season.

Morales, Dutro, and Bisono-Rodriguez each had two hits for Sterling. Dutro and Bisono-Rodriguez also knocked in two runs apiece to lead Sterling. It was pitcher by committee for Sterling, but it was Tyler Duffey who came away with the win.

Sterling improves to 4-1 on the season. They take on York University this weekend as conference play begins. The first two games have been moved up to Thursday to beat some cold weather that will be moving into the area on Friday. Start times are early at 11 am and 2 pm. The final game of the series will be played Saturday at 1 pm.
