Big Innings Hurt Warriors in Final Series Against (RV) OKWU

Bartlesville, OK- The Warriors faced several tough losses in their final games of the season, going 0-3 against the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. Sterling finishes the season 20-30 overall and 11-22 in KCAC play.

 

Game One- Sterling -1                     Oklahoma Wesleyan -22

The Eagles made two runs in the first inning, then fought against the Warrior's tight defense for a couple of innings before making most of the bottom of the fourth inning. The Warriors had one run in the third inning, scored by Luis Morales. After his initial single, Morales stole second and advanced to third on Aaron Johnson's groundout. It was on a wild pitch that Morales scored, bringing the score to 2-1 for the Eagles after three innings of play.

Thirteen runs were scored by the Eagles putting the game out of reach, then added seven runs in the fifth inning to leave no doubt. The Warriors held out the rest of the game, locking in the score at 22-1.

Andrew Mason got the start and took the loss. Luis Morales and Kyle Boomgaarden counted for 5 of the 7 Warrior hits in the contest. Morales had three hits and scored the Warriors only run of the game, and Boomgaarden had a pair of hits including a double.

 

Game Two- Sterling -1                     Oklahoma Wesleyan -12

The Warriors scored the first run of the game in the second inning of game two. Ryan Speer hit a single, then advanced to third on Layne Thacker's double to right field. Dustin Chartrand grounded out to the shortstop allowing Speer to score from third. That was the only run the Warriors were able to plate, and it was all Eagles the rest of the way.  

The Eagles responded with seven runs in the third inning. Then after a long run of tight defensive teams, the Eagles scored five runs in the seventh inning, bringing the final score to 12-1.

Camrin Wleczyk took the loss for Sterling. Ryan Speer with the spark in the Warrior's offense in game two, counting for 2 of Sterling's 4 hits. He was also the lone run for Sterling. Dustin Chartrand earned the RBI.  

 

Game Three- Sterling -1                  Oklahoma Wesleyan -6

Sterling continued to fight through the third game of the series, giving them their closes contest of the season series. Unfortunately for the Warriors, a stagnant offense kept them from competing in game 3.

The Eagles scored three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning. The Warriors made their only run in the fourth inning by Morales. After an initial double on his hit, Morales scored on Chartrand's single. Sterling only earned one more hit the rest of the way.

The Eagles scored added a security run in the sixth inning making it 6-1, the game three final score.

Chris Issac took the complete game loss giving up all six runs on nine hits while striking out four. Three Warriors had one hit each, Morales, Chartrand, and Elvis Rumaldo.

This final game put baseball's overall record at 20-30 and ranked eighth overall in the conference. Sterling's season is now complete as the KCAC postseason tournament takes just the top six teams at the end of the regular season.
