Season Comes to a Close for Warrior Women’s Soccer

Sterling, Kan. – The Sterling College women's soccer team celebrated their seniors after competing in a tough match against the Ottawa University Braves. On a day that was filled with rain and lightning delays, the Warrior's season came to a close with a 3-1 loss to Ottawa.

Ottawa got things rolling with a goal in the 10th minute of the game. Sterling and Jessica Gautreau had an answer when they tied the game at 1 in the 27th minute. Mixed into these times were occasional 30 minute breaks with the teams and fans leaving the soccer fields waiting for lightning protocol to play itself out. After 45 minutes of play, the Warriors and Braves remained knotted at 1.

The second half only saw goals by the Braves. They were able to score a pair in the 55th and 82nd minute, adding security to what was just a one goal lead for most of the second half. When time expired, the Warriors found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-1 score.

Shay Gibbs did what she has done day after day in her four-year career and finished with 11 saves in the match. Fellow senior Emorie Sautter worked as the field manager in the middle, another familiar role. Jessica Gautreau's goal was her team-leading 13th of the season. Sterling closes the season with a 4-14 record, 1-12 in KCAC play.
