Late Goal Costs Warriors

Springfield, Mo. – It was a late goal that cost the Lady Warriors in a rare Friday afternoon conference matchup. The Warriors took on Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. for the first time in KCAC play as Evangel just joined the conference.

The Warriors held tight for most of the game but were not able to close it out. Sterling's best opportunity for a goal came late in the first half when Jessica Gautreau found the net but was subsequently called offsides which negated the goal. The big blow to Sterling happened in the 82nd minute of the match when Evangel got on the board with the match's only goal.

Sterling's Shay Gibbs played 90 minutes in the goal and accumulated 12 saves.

Sterling is now 4-12 (1-10) this season and has two more conference battles before the season concludes. The Warriors travel to Bethel on Wednesday for a 5 pm start and then return home next Saturday to close out the season against Ottawa University with a 12 pm kickoff. There will also be Senior Day celebrations going on that afternoon.
