Lady Warriors Drop a Pair of Weekend Matches

Sterling, Kan. – Lady Warrior soccer played a pair of games over the weekend. The first on Friday against Southwestern College and a nonconference finale on Monday against Dallas Christian College. Both games ended in losses for the Warriors.

Friday afternoon was a windy day for Warrior soccer as they took on the Moundbuilders. The wind actually played to their favor and gave them a great opportunity to steal a game from the higher seeded SWC team. Sterling faced the wind in the first half and played defensively while Southwestern was able to get off 14 shots while playing with the wind. The game was tied at 0 after forty-five minutes of competition.

With the wind, Sterling worked hard to find an opportunity, but unfortunately were not able to find the back of the net. SWC, however, with the benefit of a controversial no-call, found their way into the box to get the only score of the game. That happened in the 72nd minute of play.

Freshman, Dixie Morgan, played a solid 90 minutes in the net, racking up 14 saves.

On Monday afternoon, the weather was drastically different as there was hardly a leaf moving with calm conditions against Dallas Christian. It was a high-octane first half with all of the offense happening in the first 45 minutes of play.

Dallas Christian got the scoring started with their first goal in the 33rd minute. Less than five minutes later, Brooklyn Ellis, normally found in the Warrior defense, broke away for an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1. The goal is was Ellis' first of her collegiate career. DCC regained their composure and punched in two more goals in the next seven minutes opening up a 3-1 lead heading into halftime. With no additional offense in the second half, Sterling lost to the Crusaders 3-1.

Sterling is now 4-11 (1-9) this season and takes the long bus ride to Evangel University Friday afternoon to take on the Valor. Kickoff is slated for 3 pm in Springfield, Mo.
