Another Close Match for Lady Warriors Ends in Loss

Sterling, Kan. – The Lady Warriors put up another good fight against a tough KCAC top contender. Sterling lost 2-1 to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes Wednesday afternoon.

All of the scoring happened in the first half, which is a bit of a surprise with a 20 mph wind straight out of the south. KWU capitalized for two goals in the first half with the wind. The Coyotes got on the board first, scoring in the 24th minute of play. Sterling answered, going into the wind, on a nice touch by Mika Stone who led Jessica Gautreau up field before Gautreau made a move to get around the Keeper to leave an open goal in front of her and she took advantage. It was the 35th minute that Sterling answered the original goal, but it was short-lived when KWU scored once again in the 39th minute. Gautreau's goal is her 11th of the season and leads the team.

Neither team was able to put the ball in the net in the second half. Dixie Morgan was in goal once again and she earned her keep. She took on 11 shots and saved 9 of them.

Sterling will play their Homecoming game this Friday afternoon at 1pm against Southwestern College. With today's loss, Sterling's record is 4-9 (1-8) this season. There are five games left on this season's schedule.
