Lady Warriors Fall in Defensive Battle to Bulldogs

Sterling, Kan. – The Lady Warriors were not able to get anything going offensively on Wednesday when facing the McPherson Bulldogs, but they were never out of the game as their defense stepped up. Sterling came into the game looking for conference win number two and this was a good opportunity for the Warriors. In the end, McPherson was able to put a couple of good touches together to get the only score of the game and the Lady Warriors took a 1-0 loss.

Sterling came out in the first 8 minutes and worked to control the ball and keep it in their offensive third. After that time, McPherson became the aggressor and worked the ball and passed efficiently looking for opportunities, putting the Warriors on the defensive. McPherson put together a couple of nice touches in the 14th minute and that was enough to get the Warrior defense out of position allowing the only score of the game. Sterling had their opportunities in the second half, forcing the Bulldog keeper to earn the win.

Sterling outshot McPherson 13-12 and there were just 2 corner kicks in the game, both by the Bulldogs. Sterling's Shay Gibbs earned 8 saves and gave up just the one goal. The Lady Warriors drop to 4-5 (1-4) this season.

The Warriors play another home game this Saturday against #10 Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
