Warriors Drop Third Straight in KCAC Play

Kansas City, Mo. – The Lady Warrior soccer team was not able to overcome the rain on Saturday afternoon when they took on the Avila University Eagles in Kansas City, Mo. this past weekend. The start time of the game was initially moved up to avoid any weather and then pushed back as the weather came early. It made for wet conditions for the entirety of the game. Sterling ended up losing the game 2-0 to drop to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Avila was able to punch in two goals on the day, one late in the first half and the other midway through the second. It was a challenge for Sterling to move the ball into the offensive third as the new look Eagle team brought their top defense into the game. Sterling managed to get 7 shots on goal but were not able to capitalize in the contest.

Defensively, Shay Gibbs gave up 2 goals and had 11 saves on the day. Sterling plays a pair of home matches in the next week. Wednesday they play in Sterling at 2 pm against McPherson College and Saturday they take on #5 Oklahoma Wesleyan University at a time that is to be determined.
