Softball Struggles to String Hits Together in Doubleheader Loss

Leavenworth, Kan. – The Lady Warriors were not able to get into rhythm Saturday against the University of Saint Mary Spires. They combined for 11 hits in the two games, but were only able to plate one run in the two games. Sterling lost both games by scores of 9-1 and 5-0.

Game 1 – Sterling 1, USM 9

Sterling scored the first run of the game in the top of the first to get things going, but it was the only run they could scratch across. From the second inning on, as the Warriors were held scoreless, USM scored at least one run in four of the five innings, including a five-run sixth that brought game one to a close.

Alyssa Mason picked up the loss for Sterling. Cheyenne Cunningham tallied two of Sterling's four hits in the contest.

Game 2 – Sterling 0, USM 5

The Warriors still couldn't string anything together even though they compiled seven hits in the second game of the doubleheader. Aiyana Campos, Mason, and Kelly Hirlas each had a pair of hits for Sterling.

Allie Olivarria pitched the complete game and took the loss for Sterling, as she struck out six in the contest.
