Warrior Softball Sweeps Royals

Sterling, Kan. – The Lady Warriors brought out their bats in a sweep of the Ecclesia Royals on Saturday. These were the final two games before the KCAC Conference season begins next week. It was a good performance all the way around for much of the team as they won game one 11-3, and came away with a 6-0 shutout victory in game two.

Game 1 – Sterling 11, Ecclesia 3

Sterling softball came out ready to play against Ecclesia College, scoring 11 runs in 4 at bats. They scored 3 runs in the first, 2 more in the third, and had a big inning, scoring 6 in the fourth. Sterling was efficient scoring their 11 run on 14 hits and receiving no walks in the game. Aiyana Campos led the way for Sterling going 3 for 3, knocking in 3 RBIs and scoring 3 runs. She had a homerun and a triple in her times at the plate. Sam Graham was 2 for 3 and knocked in 3 RBIs as well. Eight of Sterling's starters had hits in the game. The Warriors were aggressive on the basepaths as well, stealing 3 bases.

Alyssa Mason got the win pitching all five innings. She gave up the three runs on five hits and struck out a pair.

Game 2 – Sterling 6, Ecclesia 0

Slow and steady was the pace in game two. Methodically and consistently pushing runs across the plate gave Sterling the game two victory. The big story was the pitching performance by Allie Olivarria. Olivarria pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout to earn the victory. She struck out 5 in the performance not giving the Royals a chance.

Cheyenne Cunningham was a big part of the Warrior offense going 2 for 3, knocking in 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs. Both of her hits were for extra bases hitting a triple and a double. Alexis Hillhouse was the only other Warrior with multiple hits in the game. As a team, the Warriors stole five bases as well.

Sterling is now finished with their nonconference season with a 12-8 record. KCAC play starts Tuesday afternoon for the Lady Warriors with games against Kansas Wesleyan University at home. Games are scheduled to begin at 1 and 3 pm.
