Warriors Struggle Against Top Seeded Braves

Sterling, Kan- Sterling lost both of their games against the Ottawa University Braves, this fixes their KCAC record to 6-16.

 

Game One- Sterling -           1                      Ottawa -7

The Braves played a consistent game, scoring in three of the seven innings. The Braves scored two runs in the first inning, three runs in the third inning, and two runs in the fourth inning. The Warriors shut them down for the rest of the game but were unable to score until the bottom of the seventh.

The Warriors scored their only run in the final inning, made by Bailey Garber. After her initial single up the middle, Garber stole second to put herself into scoring position, then came home on a single by Julia Beyale.

Alyssa Mason and Adrianna Castillo shared the pitcher's circle this game. Mason pitched three and a third innings and allowed all seven runs on four hits. She struck out three batters. Castillo gave up three hits and struck out two Brave batters. Beyale is credited with the lone Warrior RBI.

 

Games Two- Sterling -2                   Ottawa -9

After a rough start, the Warriors settled in, but it was too little too late for the Lady Warrior Softball team.

The Braves scored four runs in the first inning, one run in the second inning, and three runs in the fourth inning before Sterling was able to plate their first run. The Warriors responded with two runs in the fifth inning. It started with a round of singles by Beyale, Sam Graham, and Kelly Hirlas, filling up the bases. After watching a strikeout from Pheobi Waller, Sam Araiza hit a single to right center, bringing in two RBIs. The Warriors got their third out from a strikeout, leaving two runners on the bases and bringing the score to 8-2.

The Braves scored one run in the seventh inning, making the final score 9-2 for the Braves.

Allie Olivarria and Castillo shared the pitching reponsibilities for this game. Olivarria pitched six and a third innings, giving up nine runs on eight hits and striking out two batters. Castillo pitched the final two outs of the game, rounding the Warrior's loss. The Lady Warriors tallied 6 hits and Araiza knocked in both Warrior runs.

Softball finishes its conference season playing against Oklahoma Wesleyan University on April 29 at their home field. The first pitch is at 1 pm.
