Warriors Fall on Senior Day

Sterling, Kan.- The Warriors lost both games to the Spires for Senior Day this past weekend, this fixing their KCAC record to 6-14.

 

Game One- Sterling -5                     Saint Mary -12

The Spires scored the first two runs in the first inning. The Warriors responded with one run of their own, by Alyssa Mason. After a single and a stolen base, Mason came around to score easily on an Aiyana Campos double.

The Spires scored seven runs in the third inning. The Warriors responded with four runs. It started with Campos smacking a double to left field. After a line out, Campos scored on a Bailey Garber single. Julia Beyale followed with a single, and Maria Casillas was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Makenna Linden knocked in 2 RBIs with her single that squirted through the right side of the infield. Casillas took advantage of an errant throw by the second baseman when the second baseman cut off the throw to second on a Linden steal and missed her target at third base. Casillas came around easily to score and Linden moved to third on the throw. The inning ended 9-5 in favor of the Spires.

The Spires scored one run in the fifth inning and two runs in the final inning, bringing the final score to 12-5.

Adrianna Castillo and Mason shared the pitcher's mound this game. Castillo pitched two and a third innings, giving eight up runs on nine hits and striking out two batters. Mason gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out five Spire batters. Campos and Garber each recorded two hits a piece, and Linden led the way with 2 RBIs.

 

Game Two- Sterling -5                     Saint Mary -7

The Warriors got on the board first against the Spires in the second game for their Senior Day. With three runs in the bottom of the first inning all knocked in by senior Brennah Jimenez. Three straight seniors by Sam Araize, Mason and Campos loaded the bases. Jimenez then smacked a double to left field, sliding in safely at second and bringing in 3 RBIs. Jimenez was left on the bases as the Spires collected three consecutive outs, making it 3-0 for the Warriors after one inning of play.

The Spires started their comeback and scored two runs in the second inning. The Warriors responded with one run by Waller. After her single and steal, Waller advanced to third on a throwing error made by the Spire catcher. Waller scored on a Mason single making it 4-2 Warriors.

The Spires scored two runs in the third inning to tie the game at 4, then two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead. They scored one run in the final inning, and the Warriors were only able to score one run in response. Jimenez singled to the right center, who was then pinch-run by Esperanza Ammerman. After a line out from Garber, Ammerman advanced to third on Beyale's single. Ammerman scored on a fly ball to right by Casillas. The inning finished on a strikeout, making it 7-5 for the Spires.

Allie Olivarria pitched the complete game against the Spires. She gave up seven runs on thirteen hits and struck out three Spire batters. Alyssa Mason broke out with 4 hits in 4 at bats and Jimenez went 3-4 knocking in 3 runs.

The Warriors face off against Ottawa University on Apr. 27, on their home field. The first pitch is at 3 pm. They then face their last conference game against the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles on Apr. 29. The first pitch is at 1 pm on their home field.
