Lady Warriors Get First Win During Rough Weekend

Texas- The Sterling College Lady Warriors found little success this past weekend in Texas. After playing three teams, the Warriors come home with a single win and three losses, shifting their record to 1-5. While their single victory was short-lived, the Lady Warriors look to future games to even the record before the start of the conference season.

Game 1- Sterling -12 Dallas Christian -5

The Warriors got off to a great start to their weekend, beating their first team of the season in the doubleheader against Dallas Christian. While the game did start slow, Sterling put up the first three runs in the third inning. Esperanza Ammerman kicked off the game when she singled, then quickly advanced to third on back to back hits. Ammerman then scored, and then following suit was Alyssa Mason, after a hit, and Maria Casillas, after a steal to home. Dallas Christian responded with two of their runs in the inning. Sterling had three more runs during the fourth inning, after a single from Julia Beyale, a double from Madilynn Green, and a bunt from Ammerman. Dallas Christian put up another run as well during the inning. The Warriors then finished the game with two more runs each inning, shutting down Dallas Christian the rest of the way.

The Warriors were strong in the batting batter's box this game. Sterling amassed 29 total hits in the game. Maria Casillas, Brennah Jimenez, Aiyana Campos, and Green all had four hits. Following close behind with three hits each were Ammerman, Sam Araiza, and Bailey Garber. Mason and Beyale each had two hits as well. Mason, as the pitcher, had six strikeouts and gave up ten hits and three runs. Sharing the mound was Casillas, who struck out two batters, and gave seven hits and two runs.

Game 2- Sterling -7 Dallas Christian -10

The Warriors hit well but couldn't keep up in game 2 of the doubleheader, losing to Dallas 10-7. Dallas was the first to put points on the board, scoring five runs in the second inning and two more in the third. The Warriors finally found some runs after a lengthy top of the fourth inning. Casillas hit a double to deep right, then scored on a single from Aiyana Campos. Jimenez scored quickly after. Then Campos, after her single, made her way around the bases and scored on a sac fly by Madilynn Green. This wouldn't be enough, as Dallas had two more runs in the fifth inning. The Warriors picked up their pace in the sixth inning, scoring four runs in the inning. Dallas responded with one last run across the home plate, finishing the game at 10-7, Dallas.

The Warriors hit the ball well. They had 17 hits in the game, but 8 errors cost them. Campos had the most hits at four, followed by Araiza and Beyale at three hits each. Casillas, Jimenez, and Garber had two hits each, and Ammerman had one hit in this game. Casillas and MacKenzie Viehland held down the pitcher's mound this game. Casillas gave up fourteen hits and five runs and had two strikeouts. Viehland had seven hits, five runs, and two strikeouts.

Game 3- Sterling -5 Texas -6

The Warriors then traveled to Tyler, Texas to battle against Texas College. The Steers would prove a worthy opponent in the game, snatching the win in a late run, and finishing the game at 6-5. The Warriors started strong, besting the Steers with three runs by Mason, Araiza, and Garber, then ending the inning with zero hits from the Steers. Araiza had another run in the fourth inning after walking to first and scoring after a fly out to center field from Jimenez. Both the Warriors and the Steers would gain a run in the sixth inning, but the Steers quickly followed it with three more runs in the seventh sending the game into extra innings. The Warriors fought against the Steers in their last chance to score runs during the eighth inning but were unsuccessful. The Steers fought back from a 5-1 deficit to win 6-5 in extra innings.

The Warriors still had a good hitting day with 12 hits. Both Araiza and Mason had three hits, followed by Makenna Linden with two hits, and Garber, Jimenez, and Phoebi Waller with one hit each. Casillo was the only pitcher for the Warriors, giving eleven hits, six runs, and a single strikeout.

Game 4- Sterling -0 Jarvis -7

The final game was played in Hawkins, Texas against the Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs. Despite the score, the Warriors played a great defensive game, keeping the innings short and the opportunities low in all except the third inning. Six of the seven runs were scored in the third inning for the Bulldogs. Sterling was outhit 10-2 in the contest. Jarvis Christian took care of Sterling with a 7-0 win.

Campos had two hits, the only Warrior to hit the ball this game. Allie Olivarria and Campos shared the pitching circle. Olivarra gave up seven hits and six runs and had two strikeouts. Campos had three hits and one run, and one strikeout as well.
