KCAC Championships Prove to be the Best Run of the Season

Winfield, Kan. – It was another record setting day for the men's and women's Cross Country teams at the KCAC Championships. It was a great morning to race with temperatures in the mid 50's and minimal wind; a rarity in Kansas. Although not finishing near the top in team standings, Sterling set a number of personal bests and finished setting school records in the women's 6K event.

On the men's side, Dawson Urwiller ran his best time of the season with an 8K time of 30:35.6. This was 19 seconds better than his previous best. Others filling in for Sterling at the conference meet were Armando Duran, Jonah Lugo, Dakotah Mote, and Jared Price. As a team, the Warrior men finished 13 of 13.

For the women, Janie Perico was the first to cross the line with a time of 27:16.2. It was a new PR and Sterling College record in the 6K. Perico improved on her previous best by 1min 38s. Crossing next for the Warriors was Jessa Lee, who made her Warrior debut in the 6K. She finished with a time of 28:10.6. Running her final race as a Warrior was Sydney VanHorn with a time of 29:07.2. This improved her previous best by 2min 55s. Others running the 6K were Aubrie Powell and Hannah Slate. Sterling placed 10th out of 13 teams represented at the Championships.

"I am very proud of our athletes for the way we ran and competed today," said Head Coach, Mason Blevins. "We had several personal best times and collectively had our best day of the season. We are excited to use this as a building block for future years of Warrior XC!"
