Warriors End Conference Season at Their Peak

Leavenworth, Kan. – The Outdoor Track and Field regular season came to a close over the weekend with the Warriors competing in the KCAC Championships in Leavenworth, Kan. From the individual's perspective it is exactly how you want a season to end. There were sixteen personal bests that were achieved by the group and one who reached the NCCAA standard to extend her season by at least one week.

As a team, the Warrior men finished in tenth place out of twelve teams that scored. And on the women's side, they finished tied for twelfth out of thirteen scoring teams. Sterling scored their points from Aliya McClanahan in the Discus and the team 4 X 800 Relay, an event Sterling hasn't been able to compete in recently, as they did not have the right athletes to compete in such an event. The men earned their points from Maurice Gray in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, and Cedric Wilson in the 110M Hurdles. Although not receiving any points in the KCAC meet, Jessa Lee's 400M Hurdle time hit the NCCAA qualifying standard, sending her to the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 8-10.

Sterling sends four participants to the NCCAA OTF Championship from May 8-10. Those athletes are Maurice Gray, Cedric Wilson, Aliya McClanahan, and Jessa Lee. This program has continued to build momentum this season under first year head coach, Mason Blevins. The anticipation of continued growth next fall, both in numbers and competitiveness, is encouraging for this team as they look to build the program to a highly competitive level. Look for more steps to be taken in the right direction next season.
