Indoor Track & Field Finishes KCAC Championships; On to NAIA Nationals

WICHITA, KAN. - The Sterling College indoor track and field teams finished up the KCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships last weekend at Wichita State University, as both teams finished strong heading into the NAIA National Championships. The women placed sixth, while the men finished tenth, but a number of solid performances throughout the meet saw Sterling finish well in several events.

On the women's side, Corrssia Perry (SO/Carrollton, Ga.) won both the 60m and 200m, breaking the KCAC record in the 200m by .37 with a time of 24.77 Her time qualified for Nationals at #2 in the NAIA. In the 60m, Perry finished with a time of 7.73, just shy of her own school record of 7.69, qualifying for Nationals at #15 in the NAIA. She will compete at the NAIA National Championships in Yankton, S.D. from March 3rd - March 6th.

Hannah Slate (SO/San Angelo, Texas) had an excellent meet, placing first in the High Jump to win the event with a mark of 1.55m. Casey Erickson (SO/Greensburg, Kan.) placed fourth in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.18m and 7th in the 200m with a time of 27.16, while Aaliyah Tarver (JR/Fort Worth, Texas) placed 5th in the 60m with a new PR of 8.02 and 8th in the Triple Jump with a mark of 10.30m. Caitlynn Bargas (FR/Jewett, Texas) finished fifth in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.80, while Sydney VanHorn was 15th in the Mile (6:01:78) and Robyn Selzer (JR/Sharon Springs, KS) was 18th (6:15.30). VanHorn also finished 15th in the 3000 Meters with a time of 12:12.99. The Women's 4x4 of Caitlynn Bargas, Corrssia Perry, Aaliyah Tarver, and Casey Erickson placed sixth with a time of 4:21.44, while 4x8 of Hannah Slate, Patrice Gray, Robyn Selzer, and Casey Erickson finished ninth with a time of 11:18.43. Taylor Dean (FR) finished 22nd in both the Shot Put (8.36m) and the Weight Throw (8.11m)

For the men, Jordan Wallace (SR/Rancho Mirage, Calif.) placed fourth in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.52, while Mikkel Tarver (SO/Fort Worth, Texas) finished seventh in the Triple Jump with a PR of 13.11m. Robbie Stansbury had an excellent finish in the Shot Put, breaking the school record with a throw of 12.65m, placing 11th in the event. Stansbury also placed 11th in the Weight Throw with a mark of 11.79m. Marcus Ransom (FR) placed 14th in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.90m, while Isaiah Marris placed 20th in the 400m with a time of 54.50. Rayan Khiayara and Nathan Jones (SO/Sea-Tac, Wash.) placed 20th (2:16.43) and 23rd (2:18.00) respectively in the 800m, while the 4x4 relay of Isiah Marris (FR/Durant, Okla.), Nathan Jones, Marcus Ransom, and Jordan Wallace finished ninth with a time of 3:38.36

Sterling also had a number of student-athletes earn awards, including Scholar-Athletes and Champions of Character.

Casey Erickson, Hannah Slate, and Robyn Selzer were named KCAC Scholar-Athletes, while Corrssia Perry and Mikkel Tarver were named the Sterling College Champions of Character.
