Warriors Split Against the Swedes

Lindsborg, Kan.- The Warriors traveled to Lindsborg, Kan. this past Monday to take on Bethany College in a conference match. The women would come up short in tough matches but the men would dominate the Swedes.

Women's Tennis vs Bethany College (2-5) L

The Warriors played a tough Bethany team and struggled and resulted in the women falling to the Swedes. In singles No. 1 Rachel Carlson would fall (3-6, 3-6), No. 2 Ana Paola Alvarez Diaz would win (6-4,6-0), No. 3 Camila Castro Medina would fall (1-6, 3-6), No. 4 Brooklyn Kuhn would fall (1-6, 0-6), No. 5 Aubrey Anderson would fall (4-6, 3-6), No. 6 Kaylie Fenwick would win (3-6, 3-2(walkover)).

In doubles the women would play in very close matches against the swedes but would fall short of the doubles point. No. 1 Dubs Alvarez and Castro would fall (6-7, 9-11), No. 2 Dubs Anderson and Carlson would win (7-5), No. 3 Dubs Fenwick and Kuhn would fall (6-7, 7-4).

A notable player for the Warriors, Ana Alvarez a freshman from Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico. After a tough loss in Ottawa, Alvarez was able to bounce back and get a win for the Warriors and is (2-1) in conference play.

Men's Tennis vs Bethany College (6-1) W

The men came to play against Bethany and beat the Swedes in just about every match to get the Warriors a victory. In singles No. 1 Antonio Paredes would win (6-2,6-2), No. 2 Pedro Felipoff would win (6-3, 6-4), No. 3 Angel Marin would win (6-3, 6-4), No.4 Esteban Rocha would win (7-5, 6-4), No. 5 Santiago Quintero would fall (3-6, 3-6), No. 6 Hunter Lee would win (6-1, 6-3).

Going into doubles the men would sweep the Swedes in all three matches to get the doubles point for the Warrior's. No. 1 Dubs Paredes and Marin would win (6-4), No. 2 Dubs Felipoff and Rocha would win (6-2), No. 3 Dubs Blede and Hash would win (6-3).

A notable player for the Warriors, Hunter Lee is a Junior from Abilene, Texas who has been playing well for the Warriors. Lee was able to continue dominating opponents at the 6th spot and would improve to (2-1) in conference play.

The Sterling men earned their first conference win in almost two years. This is also the first time the Warriors have beaten Bethany College since tennis returned to Sterling College in the 2017-18 season. The men will be in action on Saturday April 1st at home to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan in another conference match up.
