Lady Warrior Swim Takes 2nd; Men 4th at Paul Clifford Classic

Elsah, Ill.-The Sterling Warrior Swim team had the opportunity to travel to Elsah, Illinois for the Paul Clifford Classic hosted by Principia College. The three day event took place from December 1st to December 3rd. The Warriors were able to challenge themselves, improve times, and even surprise themselves with some of their finishes.

The Lady Warrior swim team finished well with an overall 2nd place finish out of six teams present. They had several first place finishes in both relay and individual events. Sydney Schmidt continued her success as she looks to reclaim the title of the nation's best in the NAIA. She met the A-cut in the 100 fly with 54.99 in the prelims, setting the pool record in the event. She won the finals race in the event with a time of 55.23, 11 seconds faster than the rest of the field. She narrowly missed two more A-cuts in the 50 free and 100 free, a goal she will set to hit later this season.

Nicole Ashford, also in her senior season, has qualified with one B-cut and just missed another. She has qualified in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.16 and will look to cut one second off of her 200 breast time to qualify in both events.

Another highlight of the Lady Warriors was the long distance tandem of Erica Frescott and Lana Rodriguez. Frescott and Rodriguez finished 1st and 2nd in both the 500 free and 1650 free.

The men found great success in their relays winning the 800 free, 400 medley, 200 free, and 200 medley. The men's relay team consisted of Jonathan Wessel as the lead-off leg, followed by Jared Price, Jonah Lugo, and anchored by Wyatt Aumiller.

Individually, Wessel won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.76. The other race worth noting was the success the men had in the 500 free race. The Warrior trio of Jared Price, Jonathan Wessel, and Jonah Lugo took the top 3 spots.
