Warrior Offense Surges in Fifth Straight Win

Sterling, Kan. – The Warrior men's soccer team has started the KCAC conference season perfect so far. Winning their last five games, all KCAC contests, the Warriors have been on a tear in the month of September. Their last blemish, a nonconference loss to USAO, happened on September 9th and is the only blemish in September with one game remaining. They continued their hot streak by scoring a conference season high 5 goals against McPherson College en route to a 5-2 win.

Sterling got things going early scoring their first goal in the 5th minute on a goal by Matt Dale with an assist from Daniel Stone. It remained 1-0 until the last minute of play when Jonathan Torres punched a ball into the net off of great pass by Javier Armendariz. At the break, Sterling held a comfortable 2-0 lead and seemed to be in control.

The Warriors wasted no time extending their lead in the second half. Sterling got two more goals in the first six minutes following halftime. Angel Jimenez-Cortes had an unassisted goal and Mateus Lara scored after receiving a nice pass from Ruben Guzman. It took a while, but the Bulldogs scored the next two goals, their final goal coming with just under ten minutes left in the match. With the score at 4-2, Sterling tacked on security goal to seal it in the 86th minute. The final goal, a Penalty Kick goal by Juan Sepulveda, happened after a foul in the box occurred.

Sterling was on the offensive all night, outshooting McPherson 25-6 in the match. McPherson did have their opportunities, taking 9 goal kicks, but could not get the angles to take many shots on goal. Marcelo Fuentes came away with the clean sheet win.

Sterling takes on #10 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday at 4pm. The winner will be the stand alone leader in the KCAC Conference. Be sure to come out and support your Warriors as they look to stay on top of the KCAC and pull of the home upset in the process.
