Men’s Golf Finishes as Runner-Up at KCAC Match Play Championship

Dodge City, Kan. – The men's and women's golf teams competed earlier this week in the KCAC Match Play championships in Dodge City, Kan. at the Mariah Hills Golf Course. The men played the course as a Par 71, 6920 yard course and the women played the Par 71 course at 5916 yards.

The Sterling men were seeded fourth coming into the match play championship so they had a first round bye. The quarterfinal matchup was against the fifth seeded OKWU Eagles and the Warriors won every individual match and won 5-0-0. As the four seed, their semifinal matchup was against the top seeded Falcons from Friends University. This was a much more contested matchup as two matches took extra holes to determine the winner. Sterling ended up pulling off the upset with a  3-2-0 win over the Falcons.

In the Match Play Final, Sterling played the #3 seed, Bethany College. The Swedes defeated second seeded Kansas Wesleyan to make it to the Championship Final. The teams were tied at 2 matches apiece and the deciding match took an extra three holes to determine the winner. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they lost the third playoff hole and ended up losing the match, 3-2. It was a strong finish for the Warrior men. Narudol Pinyo won all three of his matches in the tournament.

The women's team carried the ninth seed to start the tournament. They fell in the quarterfinals to eighth seeded York University 3-2. Sterling then took a 4-1 loss to Southwestern College in their next round and the loss pushed them out of the tournament. O'Brien Hall won both of her matches for the Warriors.

The Sterling men's team has 2 more tournaments before they will close the door on the fall. October 9-10, the men host the NAIA Memphis Shootout in Tennesee, and two weeks later they will play at the Whistling Straights Intercollegiate in Wisconsin. The dates for that tournament are October 23-24.

The women will travel to the Evangel Fall Invite in Missouri the week in between the men's tournaments. They play on October 16-17.
