Warriors Fall Behind Early and Can’t Recover Against McPherson

McPherson, Kan. – Sterling fell behind 11-0 right out of the gate against McPherson College and was never able to recover. The final score in the contest was 78-68, Bulldogs.

The hole the Warriors dug early was not too much to overcome on any given night, but on this night it was enough for the Bulldogs to keep them at bay. Sterling was not able to cut the lead to less than 6 at any point in the first half. Sterling trailed by 14 at the half, 44-30.

The second half, Sterling was a little better, outscoring McPherson by 4 in the final 20 minutes, but it was not enough with the lead that McPherson had already built up. There were a few times that Sterling got the game to within reach at four and five points, but timely shooting by the Bulldogs allowed them to pull away every time.

Mooch Austin once again led Sterling in scoring with 19 points. Elias Ngoga put in an exceptional performance with 14 points and 12 rebounds, his first double-double this season. Brandon Doss distributed the ball well with 4 assists. Will Thigpen anchored things in the lane once again with 3 blocks in the evening.

Sterling is now 9-8 (5-7) this season. They appear to be in that bump in the road part of the season that every team seems to go through at some point or another. Sterling has now lost 5 straight. They return to action Wednesday evening in the Gleason Center at 8 pm to take on the Bethany Swedes.
