Warriors Lose to York in KCAC Battle

York, Neb. - The Warriors traveled to York, Nebraska Wednesday night to take on the York University Panthers. Looking to get their third conference win in a row, the Warriors were hopeful as York was looking for their first KCAC win of the young season. After an impressive win against Tabor, the Warriors looked to build on the success they have had early this season. York, however, had a different plan in mind and came out swinging and captured an early lead that they would not relinquish. Sterling lost the game to York, 83-71.

York set the tone by scoring on the first possession of the game. York took the lead early and never gave it up. The Panthers built a 7 point lead with five minutes left in the first half, but Sterling was able to cut it to 2 with just over two minutes remaining in the half. York made the last run of the half and pushed it 6 going into the break. Sterling was not able to get into a groove in the first half and make a good run. Sterling was kept at arms length at the break, trailing 39-33. Mooch Austin and Briar led the team with 8 points each in the half.

To start the second half, the Panthers once again scored on the opening possession. Sterling got to within 4 two times in the second half, but were not able to get over the hump and take a lead. York held the lead the entire half to hold off the Warriors 83-71. Briar led the Warriors with 22 points, followed by Austin with 18 points. The Warriors lost the rebound battle 48-29, but won the turnover battle by 4. The rebound margin, however, was too much to overcome.

The Warriors fall to 7-3 (3-2) on the season. Sterling takes on the Avila University Eagles on Saturday, December 9, at 4:00 PM in the Gleason Center. This is the final home game before the holidays. Note the early game time if you plan to attend. No tickets will be issued for Saturday's game, but the cost of admission will be two canned goods as the Warriors are hosting their Holiday Food Drive that will go to the Goodfellows of Southern Rice County.
