Warriors Take Two at Tabor Classic

Hillsboro, Kan. – The Sterling College Men continued their hot start to the season. The Warriors played two games at the Tabor College Classic over the weekend and won them both by significant margins. On Friday night, Sterling took on Missouri Valley College and won 81-63. The second contest of the weekend was against Huston-Tillotson, and the Warriors walked away with an 83-61 win, going 2-0 for the second straight weekend.

It was a strong second half that gave the Warriors the victory against Missouri Valley. Sterling trailed by two at halftime before outscoring the Vikings by 20 in the second half. Mooch Austin kept the Warriors in the game in the first half, scoring 14 first half points, finishing the game with 19 points overall. The majority of the scoring was evenly distributed in the second half, but it was the two man attack of Brandon Doss and Elias Ngoga that counted for over 40% of the Warrior's scoring in the final 20 minutes that separated Sterling from Missouri Valley.

Both Austin and Doss finished with 19 points for the Warriors. Ngoga just missed a double-double grabbing 9 rebounds in the contest to lead the Warriors.

Saturday's game against Huston-Tillotson was all Warriors. Sterling was up by 27 after 20 minutes of play, 49-22. Jayden Garrison had a strong second half scoring 16 of his game high 21 in the final 20 minutes. Doss contributed 11 points in the contest as well. With the margin of victory as it was, much of the Warrior bench got minutes in the game allowing for an even spread in points and rebounds.

Sterling outshot the Rams in field goal percentage and three point percentage. The Warriors shot an astounding 65.4% from beyond the arc, going 17-26 from long range.

The Warriors are now 4-1 this season and are currently on a four-game win streak after an opening loss to Hastings College. The conference season begins on Wednesday, November 15^th, as Sterling travels to Ottawa University. The Braves are also sitting at 4-1 this season.
