SC Basketball Earns Back-to-Back Wins

 

McPherson, Kan. – SC men's basketball played in the Classic for Christ tournament at Central Christian College in McPherson, Kan. The Warriors took care of business in their two games, first against Manhattan Christian College and then against Kansas Christian College.

It was a slow start for the Warriors in their first game against Manhattan Christian. Sterling trailed by 2 at the break before Sterling took an early second half lead with a 16-0 run. The Warriors went up 9 with the run and didn't look back. Sterling extended their lead before the game was done and came away with an 86-72 win over the Thunder.

Mooch Austin led Sterling in scoring with 20 points, also adding 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Brandon Doss came off the bench to score 16 and led Sterling with 4 steals. Will Thigpen took control of the boards with 7 rebounds and also added 15 points.

The second game in the Classic for Christ was against Kansas Christian College. Sterling took control in this game midway through the first half before cruising to an easy 20 point victory. Sterling was up 12 points at the half and finished with a 79-59 victory.

Austin once again was the leading scorer for Sterling with 30 points, shooting 60% from the field. He shot 50% from three point range and was perfect from the free throw line. Lucas Briar scored 13 for the Warriors and brought in 5 rebounds. Elias Ngoga made his presence known in the paint leading all rebounders with 8.

Sterling improves to 2-1 this season with another tournament this weekend. Sterling is participating in the Tabor Classic once again and will face Missouri Valley Friday night at 4 pm, and Huston-Tillotson on Saturday at 1 pm.
