Hastings Holds off Sterling in Season Opener

Hastings, Neb. - In a season opening match-up for the Warriors, Hastings managed to hold off Sterling, securing an 82-75 victory. The game was closely contested throughout, with both teams trading blows and showcasing their skills on the court. Despite Sterling's determined effort, Hastings was able to hold off their runs and secure the win.

The game started with both teams evenly matched, finishing the first half tied at 36. However, in the second half, Hastings managed to gain a slight advantage, outscoring Sterling 46-39. The key turning point came in the form of Hastings' superior rebounding, as they amassed a total of 37 rebounds compared to Sterling's 30. This dominance on the boards created additional second-chance opportunities and limited Sterling's offensive possessions.

Sterling fought hard in this game but fell just short of securing the win. Jayden Garrison led their scoring efforts with 18 points, followed by Brandon Doss with 11 points. However, Sterling shot well as they connected on 43.1% of their field goal attempts, but were outshot by Hastings who shot almost 53%. Their three-point shooting was excellent, with a 54.5% conversion rate. These shooting struggles ultimately hindered Sterling's ability to take control of the game. A huge impact on the game was Hastings converting 8 more free throws than the Warriors.

Sterling is now 0-1 this season, with every early season non-conference game on the road. Sterling heads to McPherson, Kan. this weekend for the Central Christian Classic where they will play Manhattan Christian College Friday at 6 pm and Kansas Christian College on Saturday at 2 pm.
