
Saint Mary Men's Basketball Cruises Past Sterling College, 79-57
LEAVENWORTH, KAN. – The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team extended their winning streak and remained undefeated in conference play after a dominant 79-57 victory over Sterling College. The win improves the Spires' record to 11-3 overall and 8-0 in KCAC play.
The Spires came out firing on all cylinders, jumping to a commanding 26-13 lead within the first 10 minutes of the game. Sparked by efficient shooting and tough defense, Saint Mary maintained their momentum, closing the first half with a 16-11 run to take a 42-24 lead into the break. The Spires shot an impressive 53.3% from the field in the game, including 44% from beyond the arc (11-for-25), while holding Sterling to just 38.2% shooting overall and an ice-cold 10.5% from three-point range.
Saint Mary's defense stifled Sterling throughout the contest, forcing 12 turnovers and turning them into 24 points. The Spires also dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Warriors 33-26, limiting second-chance opportunities and maintaining control of the game's tempo.
Three Spires reached double figures in scoring. Bryce Johnson led the way with 16 points, hitting 3-of-5 from deep. Jordan Brown added 15 points, including three three-pointers, while Tre Alexander and Kaeden Bonner chipped in 12 points apiece. Joey Schultz also contributed 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. The team's depth proved valuable, with reserves Ross Ingrams adding four points and three rebounds, and Darius Pottard and Terique Suwareh contributing two points each.
Saint Mary's balanced attack and defensive focus ensured that Sterling never gained traction. The Spires' largest lead of 31 points came with just over five minutes remaining in the second half, as they continued to smother Sterling's offense and maintain their efficient shooting.
