STERLING, Kan. – Avila men's soccer got on the scoreboard first on Friday at Sterling, but despite adding a second goal to their efforts, the Eagles dropped the KCAC contest to Sterling, 4-2.
In the 22nd minute, Vincent Escott scored his second goal of the season, this time on a penalty kick. Showing promise on the offensive end, Avila picked up an early 1-0 lead.
The two sides remained scoreless for the remainder of the first half. The teams combined for 10 shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Sterling added three goals in the first 20 minutes out of halftime, including a penalty kick of their own. The Warriors held a 3-1 lead with less than 30 minutes to play.
Eagles freshman Thomas Sweet scored his first collegiate goal in the 78th minute to bring Avila to within one. It was the first multi-goal performance by Avila in eight games this season.
Five minutes after Sweet found the back of the net, Sterling added their fourth goal of the game to put the contest away.
Avila dropped to 0-8 on the season and return to action on Wednesday night at Oklahoma Wesleyan.
