SWEDES HANG TOUGH WITH WARRIORS; FALL 80-74

Sterling, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Men's Basketball team took the road to Sterling, Kansas to face off against the Sterling College Warriors.

The Swedes would start off with a 5-0 lead following a deep-ball by Jamal Frenchwood and a putback layup by Kobe Samake Kranjc. It would take the Warriors almost 2 minutes before they would get on the board with a three of their own sparking a 20-9 run over the next 9 minutes. Brandynn Manning would end the streak and start one for the Swedes as he, Key Johnson, and Jamari Magee would team up to even the score 20-20 with 7:40 to go in the first half. Sterling would end the streak with a layup, but Noah Simiskey would answer right back with a shot from downtown to give Bethany the lead. The Swedes would give up a 15-10 run to trail 37-33 at the break.

Although Bethany would score first in the second half, Sterling would open the period with a 21-11 run to go up 14 points. Will Dominguez would start to turn things around with by scoring 5 points over the next minute and a half to help cut the deficit bac to single digits. The Swedes would do all they could do, but, in the end, would still fall to the Warriors 80-74.

Jamal Frenchwood tallied his 5th double-double as he led the Swedes in points (15), rebounds (11), assists (3), and steals (2). Maurice Cudjo II also tallied double-digit scoring with 12 points off the bench.

As a team, the Swedes would dominate in the paint with 38 points compared to the Warriors' 18.

The Swedes will take a trip to Bartlesville, Oklahoma for the second half of this two-game road trip to face the No. 4 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm following the women's contest.
