Spires Finish Regular Season With Win Over Sterling

Sterling, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Volleyball team took on the Sterling Warriors on Saturday, resulting in a four-set win. The Spires are now 19-9 overall and 7-5 in the KCAC.

 

Things stayed close between both teams in the early goings of set one, with the score tied at 15. Sterling took the lead shortly after, leaving the Spires little time to rally back from the deficit. The Spires dropped the first set 25-20.

 

Set two was another back-and-forth battle for the two teams. Gabby Kurle had multiple aces throughout the set to give the Spires some momentum to win the set by six points.

 

Saint Mary came out for the third set in dominating fashion, building a 7-3 lead with kills from Rylee Kenitzer and Devyn Ford. The Warriors were able to stay within striking distance, tying the game at 18. More kills from Kenitzer and Keagan Shockley helped get them a set three win to make it 2-1.

 

During the fourth set, the Spires built a 10-4 to start things off. After Sterling came within two points of the Spires midway through the set, Saint Mary went on an 8-2 run to seal a 25-17 win and a 3-1 overall win. Kenitzer led the team with 18 kills, a block, and three service aces on the night.

The Spires will be at home to take on Sterling for a rematch to open the KCAC Championship Tournament at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Ryan Sports Center.
