Harding Scores Two Goals to Help Spires Advance in KCAC Tournament

Leavenworth, Kan.- The Saint Mary Men's Soccer team hosted Sterling College Saturday for the first round of the KCAC tournament, which resulted in a 4-2 win. Saint Mary improves their record to 12-3-3 overall and 9-2-2 in conference play, punching their ticket to the semifinals next week in Wichita.

Things started quickly for the Warriors as they got on the board early in the game, scoring within the first ten minutes to give them the 1-0 lead. After multiple shots for the Spires failed to go in the net, Sterling again scored with ten minutes left in the half to give them the 2-0 lead. It looked as if the Spires would head into halftime scoreless until Romario Harding put Saint Mary on the board with a goal of his own, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Warriors.

Saint Mary came out on a mission in the second half as Homero Gonzalez assisted Harding for another goal to tie the game 2-2. Nine minutes later, Harding assisted Guilherme Caldas to give Saint Mary their first lead of the game at 3-2. Caldas assisted William Lopez for the goal five minutes later that put the Spires up 4-2. A late offensive push by Sterling was stalled by great defensive play for the Spires as they pulled off a comeback victory to advance to the KCAC semifinals. Harding led the Spires with two goals and an assist on the day.
