Sterling comes up short against McPherson

Sterling College women's tennis faced a tough McPherson College team on Monday, April 7. Though a hard-fought battle, the Lady Warriors came up short, falling 6-1 to the Bulldogs.

In doubles play, Giovana Gaboardi and Nadia Margaritov faced Vanessa Hofer and Alexandria Garcia in no. 1 doubles where they lost 6-1. In no. 2 doubles play, Hannah Giordanelli and Greta Fankhauser lost to Taimi Nashiku and Bella Ellerbee, 6-1. Camila Castro Medina and Ana Alvarez lost 6-0 to Laureen Van Drunen and Pia Hinricher in the no. 3 doubles match.

The Lady Warriors continued to struggle in singles play. Alvarez fell to Garcia in the no. 1 singles match, 6-3, 6-0. Margaritov represented Sterling in the no. 2 singles match and lost 6-2, 6-2 to Hofer. In no. 3 singles play, Gaboardi lost to Nashiku 6-2, 6-0.

Giordanelli represented the Lady Warriors in the no. 4 singles match, facing Van Drunen and losing 6-4, 7-6. Brooklyn Kuhn got Sterling's only win of the match in a three-set battle against Hinricher, in the no. 5 singles match. Kuhn won the first set 7-6, lost the second set 6-1 and won the tie-breaker set 6-1. Fankhauser closed things out with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Ellerbee in the no. 6 singles play.

The Lady Warriors will face another tough conference opponent on Thursday, April 10 as they take on Bethel College at home.
