
Lady Warriors win spring opener against Austin College
Sterling College women's tennis opened up their season at Austin College with a 6-1 victory over the Kangaroos, Saturday, Feb. 15.
Ana Alvarez was a strong no. 1 in the singles arena, taking down Austin's Bailey Standokes 6-3, 6-2. Nadie Margaritov held the no. 2 singles, with a close first match, 7-6, followed by a decisive 6-0 second match to get the win over Olivia Sanches.
In the no. three position was Giovana Gaboardi who beat out Austin's Natalie Valle, 6-3, 6-0. Hannah Giordanelli was the only dropped match by the Lady Warriors as she fell to a tough no. four Karsyn Clouse from Austin College (6-4, 6-2).
No. five for Sterling was Brooklyn Kuhn who handled her match - 7-5, 6-0 - to bring down Emma Davidson. Finishing from no. six was Greta Fankhauser with a decisive 6-2, 6-1 victory over Austin's Lauren Hofeldt.
In the doubles, Alvarez and Giovana teamed up as no. one to take down Sanchez and Valle, 6-3. Giordanelli and Margaritov carried the no. two doubles spot, handedly beating the pair of Standokes and Davidson, 6-2.
The no. three doubles pair of Greta Fankhauser and Kuhn drew a tough match up but were able to come away with a 7-6 win over Clouse and Hofeldt.
